How to Build a Marketing Agency

Here’s what I would do if I ran my own marketing agency. I would start by figuring out who your target audience is and deciding from there where they are and when.

After that, build out the marketing channels you’ll reach them through.

Decide how much you’re willing to, or need to, invest in those channels to get a positive ROI in the long-run. It may not be immediate, it may not be direct (aka indirect sales), but the hypothesis should be that you’ll be able to achieve more sales as a result.

Part of being a marketing agency in 2025 is to be digital-first and technology-first. That’s where you’ll need help from developing a marketing technology stack which can be costly. Your agency fees should cover the variable costs of what it costs to get new leads as well as the costs to continue running your technology stack.
